Thursday 29th October

Blackfriars are excited to be a part of this project launched by Boston Big Local and Heritage Lincolnshire’s Boston Townscape Heritage Project along with the Boston Preservation Trust.

The cards will retail for £4.99 a pack and are being sold by charities and charitable organisations around the town including ourselves and Shodfriars Hall – with the money going directly back to the outlet selling them as part of the fundraising side of the project.

As Blackfriars currently remains closed you can purchase them from us on our new online shop on the link below.

HOW TO PLAY
HISTORIC BOSTON (UK) TRUMPS

IDEALLY, 2-8 PEOPLE CAN PLAY THE GAME.
TO START, SHUFFLE THE DECK AND DEAL ALL THE CARDS FACE DOWN BETWEEN EACH PLAYER. THE PLAYERS HOLD THEIR CARDS SO THAT ONLY THEY CAN SEE THE TOP CARD.

THE PLAYER TO THE DEALER’S LEFT STARTS BY READING OUT A CATEGORY FROM THEIR TOP CARD. THE OTHER PLAYERS THEN READ OUT THE SAME CATEGORY FROM THEIR TOP CARD. THE PLAYER WITH THE WINNING VALUE (SEE TABLE BELOW) WINS AND COLLECTS ALL THE TOP CARDS AND MOVES THEM TO THE BOTTOM OF THEIR PILE. IT IS THEN THEIR TURN TO CHOOSE A CATEGORY FROM THE NEXT TOP CARD.

IF TWO OR MORE CARDS SHARE THE WINNING VALUE THEN ALL THOSE CARDS ARE PLACED IN THE MIDDLE AND THE SAME PLAYER CHOOSES AGAIN FROM THE NEXT CARD. THE WINNER OF THAT HAND TAKES ALL THE CARDS INCLUDING THOSE IN THE MIDDLE.

THE PERSON WITH ALL THE CARDS AT THE END IS
THE WINNER.

Blackfriars undoubtedly plays a very important role as Boston's centre for entertainment and the arts. It is home to two very successful local amateur dramatic and operatic groups, as well as hosting a varied program of professional stage productions.
