Highly Sprung creates physical theatre performances which inspire children and young people to discover their talents and grow their voice. The work is pioneering, bold, playful and inclusive.

Blending poetry, physical theatre, dance and spoken word, Simile is Highly Sprung’s new high-energy celebration of growing up aimed at audiences of 13-16 year olds. The full-length production is inspired by the GCSE set text Worlds and Lives, a modern collection of poems that explores relatable themes of place, heritage, belonging and connection. 
Simile’s narrative is set the night before three friends sit their English Literature exam, and highlights personal struggles with identity and friendship. The piece is highly physical and exciting, with spoken word providing access points for audiences new to the genre.

Performed by a professional team of physical theatre performers, Simile has been co-written by Highly Sprung’s Artistic Director Mark Worth and Birmingham’s poet laureate Jasmine Gardosi in collaboration with The Co-Creatives Group, a team of West-Midlands based young writers, producers, directors and choreographers aged 13-18.
